Hi. I'm Madison, and I created "Tennessee: Get Up & Go!" to encourage Tennesseeans to use the resources in their own backyards to kick-start a healthier life.
In May 2011, I began training for my very first half marathon. Having previously been overweight & extremely non-athletic, that experience set in motion a lifestyle change that enabled me to lose sixty pounds and develop an active lifestyle. Through this journey, I discovered many resources throughout my community that helped me keep up my new lifestyle.
Participating in various other races like 5K's and charity run/walks in my area, community events, and programs like Fleet Feet Nashville's "No Boundaries" & Mayor Karl Dean’s “Healthy Nashville” were just a few of the things that helped keep me going. However, I felt that these resources were not being fully utilized, so I was compelled to create “Tennessee: Get Up & Go!” so that Tennessee residents could easily be made aware of such resources in their own communities through various online networks.
Since creating “Tennessee: Get Up & Go!” in September 2011, I’ve been able to get involved with many other existing programs that are making great strides in improving the quality of life for Tennesseans as it relates to their health & wellness. I’m on a mission to personally reach out to Tennessee residents through speaking engagements, workshops, and community events, helping people of all ages develop individualized plans for implementing a healthy & active lifestyle within their homes and communities.
Stay tuned as I travel the state promoting "Tennessee: Get Up & Go!" in schools, assisted living communities, and through civic organizations and community events.
